This one‑day neglect training provides practitioners with a clear understanding of what neglect is, how to recognise it, and how to respond confidently using RSCP pathways and tools. The course explores definitions, developmental impact, and why neglect is often missed -highlighting challenges such as normalisation, optimism bias, disguised compliance and difficulties gathering evidence.
Through case studies, group discussion and practical exercises, participants will learn how to apply the RSCP Neglect Pathway, including the use of SHAREDD, RESHHAPED and GCP2 tools to support assessment and multi‑agency decision‑making. The programme also builds communication skills, offering an introduction to Motivational Interviewing and guidance on managing difficult conversations with families, using approaches grounded in empathy, curiosity and professional authority. The day will enable practitioners to plan, reflect and act with greater clarity. By the end of the session, attendees will be better equipped to identify cumulative harm, engage families effectively and take timely, child‑centred action to reduce the risk of neglect.
