This conference will centre the child as a direct victim of Domestic Abuse, reflecting the statutory definition established by the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, which recognises children who see, hear or experience the effects of domestic abuse as victims in their own right. Through keynote inputs and focused workshops, the day will explore the profound impact domestic abuse has on children’s safety, wellbeing and development, supporting practitioners to strengthen their understanding of risk, harm and protective interventions.
Participants will hear from colleagues across policing, social care and early help, gaining insights into local practice, emerging themes and effective multi‑agency responses. The programme will also support professionals to build confidence in working not only with non‑abusing parents and children, but also with perpetrators – particularly men – ensuring that intervention is directed where the responsibility lies. The conference aims to enhance partnership practice across Rotherham, equipping attendees with practical tools, contemporary knowledge and a shared commitment to safeguarding children affected by domestic abuse.
