Independent Chair

Darren Downs is a retired senior leader in policing, having retired as an Assistant Chief Constable, and has worked across partnerships for over two decades, and in policing for 30 years. He is an experienced chair, having chaired numerous partnerships over the recent years, including Childrens Boards, Adults Boards and Community Safety Partnerships, along with extensive experience in managing multi-agency working across multiple Local Authorities.

Darren is still active working with partners from both the statutory and voluntary sectors, undertaking case audits, investigations, review work and development of training programmes from learning reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews.

He is also currently independent chair of a Local Safeguarding Adults Partnership, and a Lecturer in Professional Policing and Criminology. He has a wealth of experience from all this work around governance, scrutiny, development and performance management, and a real passion to make a difference to our communities and the futures our children have. He is a proven leader with a track record of delivery, and improving services that are delivered across the partnership landscape.
