Spotting the signs
If someone is involved in county lines or being criminally exploited, there are often signs. These signs can show up in their behaviour, relationships, or lifestyle.
Here are some warning signs to look out for, especially if they happen suddenly or without explanation:
Serious Warning Signs
- Going missing from home or school a lot, or being found far from home
- Having money, clothes, or phones they can’t explain
- Getting lots of texts or calls, especially from unknown numbers
- Hanging out with older people or controlling groups
- Leaving home or care without saying where they’re going
- Injuries they won’t explain or seem scared to talk about
- Carrying weapons like knives
Other Concerning Signs
- Parents or carers are worried
- Schoolwork suddenly gets worse
- Spending less time with friends or becoming isolated
- Signs of self-harm or big changes in mood or behaviour
