Safeguarding Against Spiritual and Ritual Abuse: January 2026

This course equips you with the necessary tools to identify, report, refer, and manage concerns of spiritual and ritual abuse, ensuring you are confident in handling such concerns in your role.

Last year over 2000 children were reported as being abused in England through Spiritual and Ritual Beliefs.

Over the past six years, the UK has recorded a 46% increase in the reporting of spiritual and ritual abuse (SARA) in children alone, with Rotherham and South Yorkshire being one of the highest areas in the UK for this form of abuse. Jordan Alexander, who leads this course, has directed hundreds of successful investigations of this kind, including the first criminal trial in 2017 where SARA was recognised for the first time as an aggravating factor of the abuse suffered by a family by a spiritual leader.

This course equips you with the necessary tools to identify, report, refer, but more importantly manage concerns of this abuse type, ensuring you are confident in handling such concerns in your role to safeguard those at risk.

The course covers various case studies that Jordan has worked on himself, current statistics on this abuse in the UK, its integration into other more recognised forms of abuse, and specific indicators to be aware of.

Jordan will guide you in addressing this abuse, which is intertwined with our beliefs, in a respectful and considerate way, enabling you to protect others from harmful rituals and practices, allowing you to safeguard individuals.
